Yogi govt says only 3 teachers died on poll duty

Lucknow, May 19 : The Uttar Pradesh government has claimed that only three government teachers succumbed to Covid-19 during the recently held panchayat polls.
This is in contradiction to the claims made by various prominent teachers bodies that at least 1,600 staff died after contracting the infection while on duty.
The basic education department said its numbers were based on reports submitted by district magistrates across the state so far.
Satya Prakash, under-secretary, basic education department, said, The department expressed its profound grief over demise of three teachers and has initiated process to provide ex gratia to their kin.

The Allahabad High Court on Monday remarked that the entire medical system of Uttar Pradesh in smaller cities and villages were Ram Bharose or at the mercy of God, while also finding insufficient the number of hospitals, beds, staff, critical care equipment in the five districts it had asked details for in the last hearing to gauge the state s preparedness to treat patients in predominantly rural districts.

Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 18 (ANI): Coming down heavily on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government for the management of COVID-19 situation in the state, Allahabad High Court on Tuesday said the entire medical system in villages and small towns in Uttar Pradesh is Ram bharose (at God s mercy).
A High Court Bench comprising Justice Siddharth Verma and Justice Ajit Kumar made the observation while taking into account the death of Santosh Kumar (64), who died while admitted to an isolation ward at a Meerut hospital.
