One man is dead after shooting at a Gainesville car wash

The Gainesville Police Department is searching for a 22-year-old male who fatally shot another man at the Swamp Car Wash at 912 E University Ave. on Saturday.
GPD received a call about the incident at 12:46 p.m. Saturday. The department identified Eugene Javon Patrick as the person who shot Bobby Bernard Hopkins, Jr., 36, in the chest.
Bobby Chedda Bob Bernard Hopkins Jr. was the kind of guy who always left a smile on your face.
He was the friend you could call whenever you needed, the one with the best jokes at the cookout, the charismatic people person.
Saturday, he became the second Gainesville man found shot by the Swamp Car Wash, located at 912 E. University Ave., in 2021.
Hopkins was driven to the University of Florida Health Shands Hospital early Saturday afternoon after being shot once in the chest. He died from his injury later that day, according to a Gainesville police press release.
Friends and family remembered him as a loving father, community mentor and all-around good guy.
