Alabama law enforcement watching for impaired drivers during July 4th weekend

Police across the state have one message for motorists ahead of the 4th of July holiday weekend: Don t drive impaired. State Troopers will be on Alabama s highways and waterways watching for the signs of impairment; anyone caught will be prosecuted to the fullest extent, Cpl. Jeremy Burkett said. During the 2020 holiday period, six people were charged by state troopers with boating under the influence, while 38 were charged with driving impaired, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.  Troopers last year also investigated six traffic fatalities in Barbour, Bullock, Mobile and Walker counties, as well as a drowning on Lake Martin in Elmore County and one in Talladega County on Logan Martin Dam.
