Alabama News Network has been following the efforts to save Judson College in Marion. The Christian college was founded in 1838 and is the fifth-oldest women’s college in the country. It’s also home to the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame.
The Board of Trustees is now launching a campaign to raise $5 million by April 2.
“The board was unanimous in seeking to identify donors to support the college in the coming academic year,” Judson College President W. Mark Tew said. “While this is a monumental challenge, I would like to remind all of you that we serve a great God. Prudent financial responsibility dictates that we have firm commitments from our donors before we can proceed into the next academic year,” he said.

Jasmine Walker Earns SEC Honors For Record-Setting Performance
Alabama Women’s Basketball’s Jasmine Walker is this week’s SEC Player of the Week, the league announced earlier Tuesday.
The 6-3 senior forward scored 41 of Alabama’s 92 points against the Auburn Tigers this last Sunday. That total was not only a new career-high in single-game points for Walker, but set the new program record for points by a single player. It also completed a season sweep of the Tigers for women’s basketball, who defeated its rival on Jan. 24 as well.
During the game, Walker was 14-23 on field goals including 7-13 from three and a perfect 6-6 on free throws. 21 of the 41 points came in the fourth quarter. In addition to the impressive shooting performance, Walker contributed 15 rebounds, making her the only player in the SEC since 2003 to have 40+ points and 15 rebounds.
