Dry weather leads to wildfires burning thousands of acres in Alabama Share Updated: 9:47 PM CDT Mar 14, 2021 WVTM 13 Digital Share Updated: 9:47 PM CDT Mar 14, 2021 WVTM 13 Digital The recent dry conditions in Alabama has increased the number of wildfires and acres burned.The Alabama Forestry Commission reported 261 wildfires, totaling about 5,700 acres burned this past week, between March 7th and March 13th.The AFC says during the same time last year, the state had 21 wildfires, which burned 255 acres.The extreme wildfire activity during the last few days is a result of dry conditions and weather, including low humidity, states the AFC.Just today, Alabama had 55 wildfires for a total of 2,348 acres.
