Forsyth adds 199 new COVID cases

The county is at an overall total of 23,404 cases since mid-March. There were no additional COVID-19 related deaths reported Monday in Forsyth, keeping the total unchanged at 235. Meanwhile, DHHS said there were 5,936 new cases statewide, compared with 8,833 reported Sunday and a record 11,581 reported Saturday. The overall statewide total is at 629,124. The number of COVID-19 related deaths reported Monday was 11, down drastically from a record 142 reported Sunday. The state is in the midst of an expected surge in cases and hospitalizations stemming from recent holiday social gatherings. It typically takes seven to 10 days for COVID-19 symptoms to appear. DHHS lists COVID-19 cases and deaths on the day they are confirmed by medical providers and public health officials, so individuals may have been infected or died days before their cases are counted.

Triad hospitals ICU units feeling tighter squeeze from COVID-19

The Triad and North Carolina jumped again to record-high levels for COVID-19 hospitalizations in Monday s report from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. There were 3,192 North Carolinians hospitalized with COVID-19 as of noon Monday. That s up 69 from the previous high of 3,123 on Sunday. The pandemic s squeeze on the Triad s three major health care systems tightened again last week in patients requiring care in intensive-care units. The 17-county Triad region had a daily record of 934 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, up from 15 from the previous record of 919 on Sunday. The region has had more COVID-19 hospitalizations than any other region in the state for the past 10 weeks. However, the Charlotte region currently has 793 COVID-19-related hospitalizations.

Forsyth health officials get Moderna vaccine; Triad hospitals feeling tighter squeeze on ICU-beds

The county health department received its first allocation of the Moderna vaccine at 2,800 doses. Among the 10 county officials receiving the vaccination were Tim Black, the emergency services director, and nurse Amanda Welborn. The department s initial doses will be administered using the guidelines set for Phase 1A of the state’s vaccine rollout plan. Those receiving those initial vaccinations will be health-care employees working directly with COVID-19 patients and long-term care residents and staff. Meanwhile, Novant Health Inc. infectious disease expert Dr. David Priest said Tuesday that more than 3,400 Novant employees have been vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine.
