It’s been the year style has been put on ice in favour of track suit pants and slippers. But now it’s time to refind your fashion confidence and dip your toe back into something braver. In our new Wardrobe Whisperer column, our team will find a solution for every style crisis.
I’m getting married for the second time this summer. I’m 45 and quite short – 5ft 3in and a size 10. I have dark hair and an hourglass figure. I quite like my boobs so would rather not wear anything too high-necked. The ceremony will take place in a register office. Emma Stone as Cruella

In the new Cruella film, a prequel to 101 Dalmatians, it’s couture rather than canines which take centre stage. Depicting the origin story of one of Disney’s most famous villains, Emma Stone plays a young Cruella while Emma Thompson takes the role of haughty, naughty designer, the Baroness.
With 80 costumes between them, the two lead characters are the posterwomen for two entirely different approaches to fashion. Cruella, also known as Estella, is the maverick rebel while the Baroness represents polished, precise elegance. The film is set in Seventies London, when these two worlds were colliding as punk mania clashed with the grandeur of mid-century salons.

Mango’s gingham midi dress
Mustard gingham smock dress, £59.99, Mango
Wearing anything remotely fitted during a heatwave is my sartorial hell, so I always look for a loose dress to see me through. This gingham frock ticks all of my summer boxes: the puffy sleeves protect the tops of my shoulders, the smock shape (easily cinched with a fine leather belt, but not in today’s heat, thank you) is perfectly floaty without swamping, and the pretty hue is summery without feeling OTT. The classic print makes it look considerably more expensive
