(CNN) A California man who died in police custody this month was restrained on his stomach on the ground for about five minutes before he became unresponsive and officers began CPR, body camera footage released Tuesday by the Alameda Police Department shows.
The April 19 death of Mario Gonzalez Arenales, 26, is under investigation by the county and the city, and a lawyer representing Gonzalez’s family alleges the first police news release about the incident was misleading.

Wednesday marks three months since Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf announced LeRonne Armstrong as the city s new police chief.
Armstrong is an Oakland native who started with the Police Department in 1999 and took over as its chief in February amid a sharp spike in violence in the city, with the homicide rate well above recent years and several hate crime attacks reported on Asian community members.
In addition, the department continues to be subject to federal oversight to oversee reforms mandated in a police misconduct case settlement back in 2003.

After Berkeley Police Department officers arrested a 56-year-old woman on suspicion of committing a hate crime, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged her Tuesday with battery and committing a hate crime.
On April 30 at 3:58 p.m., two women passed by the suspect on the sidewalk near the intersection of Telegraph and Durant avenues. The suspect cursed one of the women and “her Asian descent” and threw water bottles at the women before walking away, according to a BPD Nixle alert.

Antoinette Archimede, 56, was charged with battery, threatening a person based on their perceived characteristics and using offensive words in a public place. She remained in the Santa Rita Jail as of Wednesday afternoon, according to jail records. Archimede was arrested Apr. 30 after police said she accosted two women in the area of Telegraph and Durant avenues, threw water bottles at them and cursed one woman’s Asian ethinicity, said Berkeley Police spokesman Byron White.The Chronicle
