SURCA 2021 Will Be Virtual To protect our undergraduate student participants, judges, and guests from COVID-19 transmission, SURCA 2021 will be virtual. Students will use the Zoom platform to share their work with the world and receive valuable feedback from experts. New for SURCA This Year There will be no posters this year. Instead, students will deliver their work virtually using slides made in PowerPoint or similar presentation software. New “Research Proposal” presentation category. We have created a research proposal presentation category for students who have a mentored research underway but have not yet collected results they can share. This category could be especially applicable to our students whose work has been impacted by the conditions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

February 2, 2021 Colin Mannex Washington State University has selected Colin Mannex as its new associate director of the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR). “Colin brings a wealth of experience in education to the program and is excited to help our university and students advance high-impact learning activities associated with student research, scholarship, and creative activities,” said Mary Sánchez Lanier, assistant vice provost. “I’m looking forward to building relationships with my colleagues university-wide as we find new, exciting, and unexpected points of connection in the work that we do to enhance student experience and success at WSU,” said Mannex. The OUR is part of the Division of Academic Engagement and Student Achievement in the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President.

February 1, 2021 Washington State University students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields are invited to a research opportunities virtual fair Feb. 3 and 4 from 4–5:15 p.m., said program hosts. They are the WSU Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participants (LSAMP) and the Team Mentoring Program (TMP). “We are hosting the event to help students find a research faculty mentor and a project, and to explain possible financial support in the form of research awards,” said WSU LSAMP Director Yadira Paredes. The fair is an annual event, though this year it will be conducted virtually using a Zoom platform due to in-person COVID-19 pandemic considerations. Also new this year are discussions led by graduate students from about 20 faculty-led programs across the university.

Author: Eleanor Skelton Updated: 11:18 PM CST January 25, 2021 BEAUMONT, Texas Lamar University s president announced Monday that he is retiring from the university this summer.  Dr. Kenneth Evans is Lamar University s fifteenth president, the university said in an emailed news release. His retirement will be effective June 30.  The chancellor s office will be conducting a nationwide search for his replacement, the statement said.  Evans came to Lamar University in July 2013, the university said. He focused on supporting faculty research, designing new programs, campus beautification and recruiting and retaining students.
