Virginia Prosecutor Determines There Was No Basis for March Traffic Stop of Black Pentagon Employee, Drops All Charges A Virginia prosecutor determined there was no legal basis for a March traffic stop that preceded a Black motorist’s arrest, and has called for an investigation into the incident. The Washington Post reported Monday, May 10, that Fairfax Commonwealth attorney Steve Descano had dismissed all charges against 34-year-old Juanisha C. Brooks on April 16, and requested that the Virginia State Police open an internal affairs investigation. A March traffic stop conducted by 49-year-old Virginia State police trooper Robert G. Hindenlang ended with Brooks facing four charges.

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the following appointments: Ida Antoniolli Clair, 56, of Elk Grove, has been appointed State Architect at the Department of General Services, Division of the State Architect, where she has served as Acting State Architect since 2019 and Principal Architect since 2016. Clair was Senior Architect at the Department of General Services from 2013 to 2016. She was Project Manager at Cynthia Easton Architects from 1999 to 2013. Clair was Project Architect at Itaya-Espalin and Associates Inc from 1990 to 1997. She is a member of the Association of Women in Water, Energy and Environment, the 2021 vice president/president-elect of the American Institute of Architects Central Valley and co-founder of the Certified Access Specialist Institute. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $182,964. Clair is a Democrat.

UCR s regains federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution

UCR estimates that it lost $2.4 million in Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund and Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act funding due to losing its HSI designation. The university has officially regained its status as a HSI after approval from the U.S. Department of Education.  Hispanic-Serving Institutions are defined under Title V of the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Act as an institution of higher education with a full-time equivalent undergraduate student enrollment that is at least 25% Hispanic. HSI’s must have an enrollment of students in need where at least 50% of an institution’s students received financial assistance under the Federal Pell Grant, the
