House Ethics Committee clears Boebert of allegation she helped instigate Capitol riot Kerry Picket © Provided by Washington Examiner The House Ethics Committee will not investigate a claim from the co-chair of the Progressive Caucus that Rep. Lauren Boebert helped instigate the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol. In a letter to the Colorado Republican made public on Monday, Chairman Ted Deutch, Democrat of Florida, and ranking member Jackie Walorski, Republican of Indiana, stated, “In accord with Committee Rule 26(k), we hereby notify you that the motion failed, and an investigative subcommittee was not established.” The members added, “Because Committee Rule 16 provides for no specific further action, the Committee will not further review the complaint.”

Ethics Watchdog Calls for Investigation into Democrat Marie Newman

Sarah Silbiger/Getty Images 27 May 2021 Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a non-partisan ethics watchdog, filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics, requesting an immediate investigation into Democrat Rep. Marie Newman (IL) for allegedly violating federal law and ethics rules. Kendra Arnold, the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust executive director, wrote in her letter attached to the complaint, FACT is requesting an investigation. This is due to recent reports showing Newman allegedly promising Iymen Chehade a six-figure salary, taxpayer-funded, if Chehade reportedly did not run against Newman in the already tight race, in addition to apparently helping her win.
