Gov. Whitmer Announces $5.6 Billion Michigan COVID-19 Recovery Plan

While Governor Gretchen Whitmer is in Washington DC for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, she held a virtual press conference Tuesday announcing the Michigan COVID Recovery Plan.
The $5.6 billion plan focuses on three sectors, vaccine distribution, support for small businesses and education, specifically getting kids back into school as quickly as possible.
The state wants to get students back in class by March 1. This plan will help fund that transition while also offering grants to businesses trying to recover from the pandemic.
While Gov. Whitmer expects increased vaccine supplies under a Biden administration, the state needs to spend more money to be ready to give those shots, aiming at 50,000 a day.
MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI On Tuesday Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the creation of the Office of Rural Development, which will be housed under the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD).
MDARD is under the leadership of Upper Peninsula native and former legislator, Gary McDowell. Rural economic developers and their partners from across the state have advocated for such a move, bringing a similar concept forward in 2020 for consideration. The Governor’s actions today reinforces her support for our rural communities and acknowledges their uniqueness.
