The agency said that all of the vehicles named in the complaints – except for the CT4, CT5, and XT4 – had been involved in a GM Technical Service Bulletin. The bulletin, which is
not a recall but a guide for technicians when diagnosing problematic symptoms, noted that an airbag warning light could be caused by rust particles in the connection terminal for the airbag inflator. According to NHTSA, if the warning light is on, it “may result in a non-deployment of the driver airbag during a frontal collision and increased risk of injury to the driver.”
NHTSA said that its Office of Defects Investigation has opened a preliminary investigation to look into the situation, and to fully assess any potential safety-related issues. The agency has not issued any recall or warning to consumers.
