  President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Tuesday, urged Ghanaians to put the challenges of the General Election and the Covid-19 pandemic behind and forge ahead as one people for the common good of the nation. Delivering his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament in Accra, following his reelection, the President outlined the successes of his first term, including macroeconomic stability, with gains in food production, infrastructure, employment generation and energy. Ghana, he said, was in good health and remained attractive to investors, despite the ravages of the pandemic. “Yes, we are reeling from the effects of COVID-19, but I am confident that, with the progress of the vaccination programme, we will recover quickly, and work towards putting our nation back onto the path of progress and prosperity, he said.

GGAGG petitions Parliament, three anti-corruption agencies to investigate GCB Board

Listowell Nana Kusi-Poku, the Executive Director, GGAGG The Good Governance Advocacy Group, Ghana (GGAGG), has petitioned Parliament and three state anti-corruption agencies to investigate the conduct of the GCB Bank Ghana Limited Board for alleged maladministration. The three state anti-corruption institutions are the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and the Office of the Special Prosecutor. Mr Listowell Nana Kusi-Poku, the Executive Director, GGAGG, who made the disclosure on Tuesday at a press conference in Accra, said the people of Ghana had at least 73.14 per cent shares in GCB Bank, hence, the need for them to know about happened within the Bank.

  As a first-term Member of Parliament, it is interesting hearing the President of Ghana present the State of the Nations Address in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. Whilst it is important to acknowledge that for a continuing Administration, the President speaks on the actual results of critical interventions accomplished by his government, it was equally important to give the true picture of the nation in terms of the economy, education, physical and social infrastructure, among many others. To this end, the national debt stock which currently stands at GHS286.9 billion as at November 2020, representing 74.4% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), was a critical issue but conspicuous missing in the State of the Nation Address (SONA).
