By SETH ROBSON | STARS AND STRIPES Published: February 19, 2021 YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – The commander of the largest U.S. military base in Tokyo has moved to assure residents they are safe after the body of a man who had been missing for 16 days was found in his own apartment building on the installation. “Over the past 12 months our base has experienced the deaths of six members,” Col. Andrew Campbell, who leads Yokota’s 374th Airlift Wing, said in a video message posted on the base’s official Facebook page Thursday evening. The most recent reported death was that of Trevor Balint, 34, of Hubbard, Ohio. Balint, the spouse of Defense Department computer programmer and analyst Britni Balint, disappeared Feb. 1, prompting a search of the base from the ground and the air. His body was found Tuesday morning in the eastside housing tower where the couple lived.

Cooley. The former Air Force Research Lab commander faced an Article 32 hearing Feb. 8, in which the judge heard the evidence surrounding the case, and has subsequently made his recommendation. “The Preliminary Hearing Officer has completed the report and transmitted it to the Air Force Materiel Command Staff Judge Advocate,” AFMC spokesman Derek Kaufman said Thursday via email. “Following Judge Advocate review and processing, it will then be provided to the Convening Authority, Gen. Arnold W. Bunch, Jr., AFMC commander.”

By SETH ROBSON | STARS AND STRIPES Published: February 17, 2021 YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – The body of a U.S. civilian reported missing more than two weeks ago was discovered Tuesday in the housing tower where he and his wife lived at Yokota, according to the Air Force. Trevor Balint, 34, of Hubbard, Ohio, the spouse of a Defense Department computer programmer and analyst, disappeared suddenly Feb. 1, prompting a search of the base from the ground and the air. His face appears on fliers, fading now, posted everywhere at Yokota, the headquarters in western Tokyo of U.S. Forces Japan. His body was found in the east side housing area around 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to a statement on the base website Wednesday. Balint, a former substitute teacher at Defense Department schools, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, according to the base.
