Mayor Peckford And Council Extend Condolences To Victims Of Oxford Mills Fire

North Grenville’s Mayor is extending her condolences following the fatal fire in Oxford Mills that saw four people killed.
The Grenville OPP were called out to assist North Grenville firefighters on Sunday to a fire on Stone Road in Oxford Mills Township.
Police say that the fire completely engulfed the building.
Mayor Nancy Peckford called the fire catastrophic, as she extended her sympathies on behalf of council.
“On behalf of myself, Councillor Strackerjan, Emergency and Protective Services Liaison, and my Council colleagues, we would like to offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victims,” Peckford said. “Please know our hearts are with you during this difficult and seemingly impossible time.”

A working smoke alarm helped save the occupants of Onondaga Road home from harm early Tuesday morning.
Six Nations police say they were called to a report of a house fire on Onondaga Road at about 1:27 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Six Nations fire already on scene putting out the blaze and paramedics were on standby.

The home was engulfed in flames, police said in a statement released Wednesday.
Officers spoke to the homeowner who told them he woke up to the sound of a smoke alarm. He then woke up three other occupants and everyone was able to flee to safety.
LONDON, ONT. A fire near Sarnia’s downtown core has left one person dead, police say. Emergency crews were called to the 100 block of Stuart Street near Davis Street around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday for the blaze. Witness Chad Xuereb says a man was removed from a garage at the residence. “They carried somebody out,” he tells CTV News. He added that emergency crews were quick to respond and that he, and others at the scene, never imagined someone might be inside the garage. Sarnia police have confirmed one person was removed from the residence and pronounced deceased. His identity has not been released.
