Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is the latest U.S. lawmaker to receive the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

I know I looked away from the needle
And yes, I know I need a tan

The senator joins several other prominent U.S. political leaders in getting vaccinated, including Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, as well as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and Surgeon General Jerome Adams, all of whom got their shots Friday. “Hey everyone! So we found out last night that the COVID vaccine was available to members of Congress as part of ‘continuity of governance’ plan (basically a national security measure),” she wrote in an Instagram story Friday evening, adding that she would “never advise” Americans to do something she was not willing to do herself.
“So I’m heading to my vaccination appt now,” she continued, and said she was there to take any questions before posting a video receiving the first dose of the vaccine:

Pelosi, McConnell Receive COVID-19 Vaccine
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) received the new COVID-19 vaccine on Friday.
Both congressional leaders shared photos of themselves on Twitter having received the vaccine from the Capitol physician, Dr. Brian Monahan.
“Today, with confidence in science & at the direction of the Office of the Attending Physician, I received the COVID-19 vaccine. As the vaccine is being distributed, we must all continue mask wearing, social distancing & other science-based steps to save lives & crush the virus,” Pelosi announced on Twitter.
McConnell called the vaccine “safe, effective” and said that vaccines are “how we beat this virus.”
U.S. Republican Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) Friday released the following statement on the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine:
“Because of American ingenuity and innovation, we will soon have two safe and effective vaccines approved for the fight to end this pandemic.
“Today on the advice of the Office of the Attending Physician, I received a COVID-19 vaccine, following the example of Vice President Mike Pence, Second Lady Karen Pence, and Surgeon General Jerome Adams in showing our fellow Hoosiers they can be fully confident these vaccines are safe and effective.
“I will continue working with federal, state, and local officials to ensure vaccine doses are distributed in our communities as efficiently as possible so that together we can defeat this invisible enemy.”
