TBI column – Why do carers of vulnerable people appoint a professional deputy?

21 Apr 2021 ADVERTISING FEATURE Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors in Teesside explains why so many carers of vulnerable people opt to appoint a professional deputy to look after their financial affairs. A deputy is a person that looks after the financial affairs of a vulnerable person mentally incapable of handling it themselves. Professional deputies undertake the same role, but are qualified solicitors with extensive experience in such matters. They are governed by the Office of the Public Guardian and are held to a high standard in terms of the decisions they make. Partners at Tilly Bailey & Irvine LLP hold a significant number of professional deputy positions and have done so for many decades, making them experts in the field with significant experience.

Hawaii Supreme Court Ends Pandemic-Related Early Prisoner Release

Hawaii Supreme Court Ends Pandemic-Related Early Prisoner Release As state and local governments across the United States ease pandemic-related restrictions, the Supreme Court of the State of Hawaii has decided to end a program that allowed for the release of low-level inmates early in hopes of controlling the spread of COVID-19 in the Aloha State’s detention facilities. The three-page ruling ending judicial oversight of the jails came on April 16. The vote was 4–1. The order also ended the temporary prohibition on judges imposing bail on defendants charged with certain low-level offenses. Concerned about a viral breakout at Oahu Community Correctional Center, the Office of the Public Defender filed a petition with the court Aug. 12, 2020, seeking the expedited release of certain categories of inmates at Hawaii’s community correctional centers and facilities. At that time, “the pandemic’s trajectory remained uncertain and vaccinations were not available.”

808stateofaloha@gmail.com There’s an old picture of Kaanapali Beach that continues to amaze me. The black and white picture depicts a lonely, wide strip of golden sand sloping down into the clear waters between Maui and Molokai. Sparse clusters of swaying coconut trees are the only thing on the beach with Pu’u Keka’a, where Native Hawaiians believed spirits of the dead leapt into the afterlife. The amazing part is what you don’t see. No one is in the photo. It’s completely devoid of people, pavement and resorts. The first hotel built at Black Rock was the Sheraton Maui Hotel in 1963. Others followed. Over the decades Kaanapali became a bustling place for vacationers to snorkel, shop and get a sunburn.
