Knife crime rising in Swindon, new figures reveal

Figures released recently by Wiltshire Police show a slight increase in incidents. In the 12 months up to and including March 2021, Wiltshire Police recorded 718 knife-related crimes, which included where someone was in possession of a knife. This is slightly higher than the previous year (694). The figures for knife-related crimes where there was violence against the person, rose slightly from 240 to 288. Now police have welcomed new laws tackling offensive weapons. The Offensive Weapons Act came into effect on Wednesday. It is now unlawful to possess a wide range of offensive weapons in private. Some of the weapons covered under the act include zombie knives, death stars, flick knives and knuckledusters.
