Rolla job seekers can interact directly with employers during a virtual job fair Tuesday

RDN REPORTS rdnnews@gmail.com The Central Workforce Development Board has partnered with the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development and the Office of Workforce Development to host a virtual job fair specifically for Missouri residents. Job seekers can interact directly with employers during the job fair and learn more about opportunities within the state.  The virtual job fair is part of the Return Strong initiative, which has hosted several virtual job fairs since August, featuring jobs in healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, and more. Though Missouri has faced record unemployment rates due to COVID-19, the Return Strong recovery plan helps residents get back to work as quickly as possible, according to Central Workforce Development Region’s communications coordinator, Sundi Jo Graham.

City aims to boost paramedics diversity

By Daniel Sheehan, Reporter Staff February 18, 2021 Daniel Sheehan, Reporter Staff Boston will offer a new round of scholarships for current EMS members as part of a program to increase diversity and inclusion among the ranks of Boston Emergency Medical Services. The funds will assist 16 emergency medical technicians who are now beginning their course work at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) to become certified paramedics. The program is being coordinated through the United Coalition of EMS Providers (UCEP) in partnership with both the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development and BHCC. Paramedics are state-certified EMTs who hold an additional certification that expands the scope of their practice to include complex procedures, such as intubations.

Missouri Apprentice Ready initiative launched

The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) within the Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development (MDHEWD) has launched MO Apprentice Ready, an initiative to fund pre-apprenticeship programs throughout the state.A $1 million investment of federal funds will be used to create pre-apprenticeship opportunities, supporting pathways to Registered Apprenticeships. “Over the past three years we have cultivated a robust Registered Apprenticeship program network. To continue our growth, and allow for more Missourians to access sustainable employment opportunities, we need to support the development of pre-apprenticeship programs directly connected to Registered Apprenticeships,” said Dr. Mardy Leathers, director of the Office of Workforce Development. “This will create a talent pipeline and get more Missourians prepared to enter a Registered Apprenticeship opportunity.”
