You may or may not be allowed to set off legal fireworks this holiday weekend, depending on where you are in the Mid-Willamette Valley.
Salem, for example, is not issuing an emergency ban, leaving some thrilled they can set off legal fireworks and others concerned for the safety of the area in the midst of a hot, dry summer.

THE DALLES, Oregon (KPTV) A wildfire near The Dalles damaged several outbuildings and vehicles, and grew to nearly 1,000 acres after it was first reported Thursday afternoon.
The Office of State Fire Marshal said the Sunset Valley Fire was first reported around 3:45 p.m. in the 3100 block of Valley View Drive. Strong winds pushed the fire, which was burning in mostly brush and wheat, in a southeast direction.
The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office issued Level 3 “Go Now” and Level 2 “Get Set” evacuations for areas near the wildfire. Current evacuation levels can be found on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page. Parts of Highway 197 were closed Thursday evening, but were back open Friday morning.

The Manila Fiesta on 1952 McGilchrist St SE closed early Saturday. Usually open until 7 p.m., the Filipino restaurant shut its doors at 3 p.m.
On Sunday, as temperatures in the city reached 113 degrees, the restaurant remained closed as it usually is. But the historic high temperatures continued Monday, reaching 117 degrees in the afternoon.
Owner Marissa Luciano decided to close at 2 p.m. Monday, hoping to bring respite to her kitchen staff and equipment.
“Our kitchen is really overworked with this heat,” Luciano said Monday. “We are not going to gamble with this heat.”
Residents hoping to avoid cooking during the weekend’s record-breaking heatwave found a number of restaurants around the city closed earlier than expected or shut down altogether.
