HELENA â On Friday, the Montana Law Enforcement Academy hosted a graduation ceremony for 56 new officers and debuted some much-needed renovations to the campus.
The graduation introduced law enforcement officers into various departments at the state, tribal, county, and city levels.
The course the new officers went through was 12 weeks long and was one of the only law enforcement academies that were able to successfully run amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The changes to the campus include renovations of buildings ranging from 60 to nearly 100 years old. Renovations were made to areas like the cafeteria and dorms, as well as various upgrades to heating and ventilation systems, and various fixtures like lighting, carpets, and paint.
The holiday season sees an increase in charitable donation drives. It also sees an increase in scammers pretending to be charities. This year, the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection advises residents to follow
warnings issued by the Maryland Secretary of State and the State Attorney General that the COVID-19 health crisis is adding an extra layer of complexity.
As the Federal Trade Commission
(FTC) noted, because of COVID-19, many (if not most reputable) charitable organizations are faced with greater demand for their services this year, but have received less in donations as people have less to give.
Charities and scammers are focusing their efforts on donations toward coronavirus-related response programs, such as aid to the unemployed, families of those ill with COVID-19 or toward care packages to thank healthcare workers. It is important for residents to make sure that donations will be used wisely and well.

Frustrated senior struggles with frequent repairmen visits, warranty problems in pandemic
The impact of the coronavirus pandemic of seniors needing home service calls.
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - There s been a revolving door of appliance repairmen at Joann Dixson’s DeKalb County home ever since her washing machine stopped working properly in mid-October.
“They have been here once a week since October 20. Once a week except last week, but I’m really irritated about that. They keep saying I need a new part,” Dixson said from her home near Decatur Wednesday.
The DeKalb County homeowner bought a $1,200 extended warranty for all of her Sears appliances three years ago. She s told FOX 5’s Portia Bruner it s come in handy for other appliance repairs and replacements in the past. But in a COVID-19 pandemic, the 73-year-old isn t comfortable with a lot of contractors in and out of the house, especially since she has underlying health issues.
