President Trump has less than a month left in office, yet he’s creating potentially massive roadblocks for pandemic relief and government funding. On Tuesday night he released a video in which he signaled he would not sign the fiscal 2021 spending package and coronavirus relief deal that Congress passed on Monday, which increased the risk of a government shutdown. Also, Wednesday is the deadline for Trump to veto the fiscal 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, which he said he will do. The House and Senate both passed it with veto-proof majorities, but there could be some “procedural hurdles,”

(Bloomberg) As researchers from Silicon Valley to Washington race to understand the full impact of the massive cyber-attack that breached computer networks in the government and private sector, one of their thorniest unanswered questions centers on motive.

Already, investigators and government officials have pointed to an elite group of hackers tied to the Russian government and suggested a fairly obvious rationale: that it was an espionage operation aimed at nabbing classified intelligence and other inside information.
But some lawmakers and people involved in the investigations have said that the magnitude and breadth of the hack point to other objectives, including undermining Americans’ faith in the systems themselves. Justice Department whistleblowers are calling on federal watchdogs and members of Congress to investigate what they call illegal and abusive government directives that waste money and chill diversity-related speech across the entire federal workforce.
NPR has obtained a letter by a lawyer for the whistleblowers, who report that diversity and inclusion programs they had planned for the Justice Department earlier this year were branded divisive propaganda and had to be canceled.
One such program was supposed to feature the former U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, Jessie Liu; and the head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Regina Lombardo, to discuss the gender leadership gap at the Justice Department. Another would have examined the issue of implicit bias in law enforcement.
