The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), which recently finished its draft environmental review of the South Fork Wind Farm, gave the public a chance to weigh in on the document at three virtual public hearings in mid-February, and is accepting further written public comment through midnight tonight.
While much of the focus on the wind farm locally over the past several years has been the local and New York State Public Service Commission review of the wind farm’s export cable, currently slated to come ashore at Beach Lane in Wainscott en route to a substation in East Hampton, the BOEM review focuses on the wind farm itself, 15 turbines slated to be placed in federal waters about 30 miles off the coast of Montauk.

TOWN OF WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Itâs a solar project sprawling 2,000 acres and, historically, local governments have had a say when it comes to where and if projects like it will be built. But, a new process is changing the way these projects are approved.
By 2030, Governor Cuomo hopes to have 70 percent of the stateâs electricity from renewable sources like solar.
One of the areas to see a major solar project is right here in the north country.

RIPLEY Members of fire departments who frequently assist the Ripley Hose Co. have expressed their opposition to the proposed South Ripley Solar array project.
Town Supervisor Doug Bowen read letters from the chiefs of North East Fire Department and Stanley Hose Company of Sherman, both of which expressed serious concerns over their ability to respond to an explosion or fire involving the solar array battery storage area.
Dave Meehl, chief of the Crescent Hose Company in North East, sent a letter to Ripley Fire Cheif Mark Smith stating that, after a meeting with Issac Phllips of ConnectGen, “there were a lot of unanswered questions about the safety of this storage of the battery and how to deal with them in an emergency situation.”
