Houston: The Indian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC) of Greater Houston is a nonpartisan organization and one of its missions is to promote and encourage political involvement and increase political awareness in the Indian American community residing in the Greater Houston area.
IAPAC congratulates Neera Tanden on her historic nomination to be the Director of the Office of Management & Budget (OMB). Her exemplary qualifications and experience, both formative and professional experiences, make her a great fit for this cabinet role. President Biden described her as having a “brilliant policy mind with critical practical experience across government.” An immigrant from India, her family at one time relied on government assistance and the social safety net and this is reflected in her professional work and her approach to policy.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Sunday that he is still working with President Biden to find the votes to confirm the latter's controversial nominee for Office of Management Budget director, Neera Tanden, CNN reports. Tanden's confirmation is looking increasingly unlikely after Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), perhaps the most crucial swing vote in a Senate with the slimmest of Democratic majorities, said he won't back Tanden because she's made "overtly partisan statements" in the past that "will have a toxic and detrimental impact on the important working relationship between members of Congress and the next" OMB director. But Schumer and Biden apparently aren't giving up and will try to snag at least one Republican vote to get Tanden into the Cabinet, rather than shift their attention to a new nominee. Dem leadership not giving up on Tanden yet https://t.co/YGKPflSMFk — Manu Raju (@mkraju) February 21, 2021 More stories from theweek.comM

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Sunday said that he is working with President Biden to find the extra votes needed to confirm Neera Tanden, Biden’s nominee for Office of Management Budget director, after Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced his opposition to Tanden’s confirmation.
In announcing his opposition to Tanden’s confirmation on Friday, Manchin said in a statement that the “overtly partisan” statements that Tanden had made about lawmakers on both sides of the aisle would have a “toxic and detrimental impact” on her ability to work with Congress in the role.
Although Manchin’s opposition is likely to tank Tanden’s nomination, CNN reported that Schumer signaled on Sunday that both he and Biden will push forward with their effort to gain at least one Republican vote in favor of getting Tanden into the Cabinet.
