Unlocked vehicles broken into, one stolen in Newberry overnight Sunday At least seven unlocked vehicles were broken into overnight Sunday in Newberry, including one where keys had been left inside, according to initial law enforcement investigations.  The vehicle burglaries took place in the Country Way subdivision, near Newberry Elementary School, said Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Frank Kinsey.  He said items stolen from inside the vehicles mostly include small items that could easily be carried away, though he didn’t know what they included specifically.  The sheriff’s office has obtained home security footage that detectives will review in the hopes of finding out more information on the burglar or burglars it’s too soon at this time, Kinsey said, to know how many people are suspected.

(WWSB) -An inmate at the Charlotte County jail was found unresponsive and alone in his cell on Saturday evening. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer says 57-year-old Doug Gow was found in his cell with a piece of fabric around his neck. Jail staff say they immediately began trying to save the man’s life as EMS was on their way and were unsuccessful. “Per policy, corrections deputies walk the pod once every 60 minutes to ensure the safety and security of all inmates,” said CCSO PIO, Claudette Bennett.
