The Denver Broncos draft was heavily weighted towards reinforcing the defense. Seven of GM George Paton s picks were defensive in contrast to the three offensive selections.
It seems like defense-oriented head coach Vic Fangio had his thumb on the scale in the decision to prioritize adding defensive talent to the roster.
Throughout free agency and last week s draft, the Broncos infused playmakers that should help vault the team up the defensive rankings. Although this year s unit does not possess the same game-wrecking talent of the 2015 Super Bowl-champion Broncos defense, if everyone can stay healthy, the crew should be a force to reckon with.

This is the time of year when all NFL teams are putting their rosters together for training camp.
And one of the most exciting events of the calendar year, the annual NFL Draft, has just concluded.
But we have to keep in mind that all rosters are also built from the inside and out that is, with the inclusion of a group of players not drafted in the seven rounds. This group is overlooked in the frenzy of taking the best prospects available in rounds one through seven.
But history is full of players not drafted at all, and Denver Broncos history is no exception.

The Denver Broncos made the decision to pass on a quarterback in the 2021 NFL draft for Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II, whom many analysts had rated as the top corner in the class. This was an interesting move after Denver signed veteran corners Ronald Darby and Kyle Fuller in free agency.
It makes sense with multiple corners on the roster having health concerns and the Surtain pick also preempts the contract status of Fuller (signed to a one-year deal) and Bryce Callahan, who s entering a walk year.
Before the draft, Broncos GM George Paton said he was looking for a starter with the team s first-round pick a curious comment after what the team paid to Darby, Fuller, and have on the books currently with Callahan. Could Denver view Surtain through a prism of planning to play him perhaps a lot more than fans might think?

TIMONIUM, Md. â A giant American flag met those arriving at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens for the service, which typically draws a crowd of 1500 people, but was limited to families and honor guards due to the pandemic.
A pandemic, which cost 67-year-old Taneytown Volunteer Fire Paramedic Jeff Schaffer his life after he contracted COVID while serving on the front lines.
âEven just growing up. He would be in the kitchen eating. He would jump up and run out to a call. I would sometimes go on calls with him,â said Chris Schaffer, the paramedicâs son. âThere was no give up with him. He knew, even with this stuff going on, people still needed help.â
