Weed Is Legal in New York: How Fashion & Beauty Are Getting Involved

On how that first joint led to Farnsworth Fine Cannabis: “I was 16 years old. I was supposed to be in film class, but I was with my friends, with the sunroof open, driving around the foothills in Salt Lake City,” Farnsworth muses. “For me, growing up in a very conservative Mormon community in Utah, it just felt like cannabis gave me a place that was an escape and that was safe and that was interesting.” “Coming from a background of luxury apparel and luxury retail, it was really about approaching this the development of our space and our cannabis brand no differently than the development of a luxury apparel collection and, of course, store,” Lippes says. “How do we make the experience as elevated as the product itself? What is the cannabis lifestyle? How does clothing fit into their lifestyle, and what do they want?”

On offer: American fashion designer Adam Lippes teamed up with entrepreneur Alexander Farnsworth to launch this suave boutique on Main Street in bucolic Great Barrington, Massachusetts that elevates cannabis retail to the realm of a high-end jewelry dealer. Inspired by circa-1400’s European apothecaries like the august Ospedale Maggiore complex founded by the Duke of Milan Francesco Sforza, Lippes, Farnsworth, and British architect Simon Aldridge conceived the minimalist showroom with a bronze Julie Neill leaf showpiece chandelier and 78 arched oak wood vitrines that nod to Rome’s Colosseo Quadrato.  Standout features: As alluring as the interiors are, the main draw is the product on the shelves. The company’s elegant full-flower “cigarettes” available in three effects Light for a bright and heady lift, Classic for a pleasantly buzzy bliss, and Bold for full-bodied relief are wrapped in organic hemp paper tipped with a lengthy filter that creates a high-flow filtration. Great Barrington Dispensary Combines Art, Equity, Luxury Cannabis

Social media strategist Alexander Farnsworth and his brother Brayden, and fashion designer Adam Lippes launched their joint venture, Farnsworth Fine Cannabis on March 1 with a retail location in Great Barrington. The shop is LGBTQ-plus owned and pledges that 65 percent of the business staff will be made up of LGBTQ-plus, women, racial minorities, and veterans.   Lippes has been a part-time resident of the Berkshires for about 15 years and Farnsworth first had the idea for a high-end dispensary in 2012 when Colorado legalized the plant.   I kind of fell in love with Great Barrington because it reminded me of a mini Park City where I spent a lot of time growing up, Farnsworth said. And so one of my very first thoughts upon arriving in Great Barrington was this would be the perfect place for a pot shop.
