ABC6 News presses governor on decision to vaccinate teachers before others with underlying health conditions

March 9, 2021 7:05 pm PROVIDENCE, R.I. A conversation about vaccine equity with Rhode Island s health director Published Wed Mar 03 2021 15:28:30 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time) by Lynn Arditi In Rhode Island, Latinos account for 16% of the population and 30% of coronavirus cases. But just 6% of vaccine doses have gone to Latino residents. Similarly, Black residents have lower rates of vaccination than white residents.  Rhode Island’s health director, Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, spoke with The Public’s Radio health reporter Lynn Arditi about the state’s efforts to narrow the gap.    Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott: The first step in focusing on equity is being intentional about it and making sure that we are very clear about the gaps that we are seeing, and are using that as a driver to focus on closing those gaps. And certainly what we ve seen in Central Falls has proven itself to be a template of what we need to continue to follow and focus on.
