(WWNY) - There’s a rise in COVID-19 cases in north country prisons, but they aren’t coming from behind bars. It’s the staff that has come down with the virus. “It’s very concerning. I have a genuine concern for each and every one of our members,” said Michael Powers, New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association president. “Our staffing gets to be an issue due to the fact that once you start to see a rise in COVID cases, whether it is in a correctional facility or community, that contact trace grows.”
