Belgian youth to receive the vaccine after summer?

Children and young people who wish to do so will be vaccinated after summer, Belgium’s Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) said on Thursday. ´“You will also receive a vaccine, but today you are the least vulnerable. First, we will vaccinate those who are most likely to get sick, but eventually, we will also vaccinate children”, De Croo said speaking in  VRT Niews’ youth news program ‘ The Belgian prime minister did not give a precise timetable but said he thinks that it will be possible sometime after the summer. Vaccinologist Isabel Leroux-Roels told  VRT she expects that young people in Belgium between the ages of 12 and 17 will have their jab by the end of the year, while younger children will have to wait until 2022.

Belgium s curfew becomes political point of contention – EURACTIV com

Belgium’s Consultative Committee on Friday (5 March) announced minor relaxations to the COVID-19 measures. However, the curfew that has been in force since last October remained untouched. Recently, Wallonia decided to align its curfew with Flanders, midnight to 05.00, which left the Brussels region with a curfew from 22.00 to 06.00. Jan Jambon (N-VA), minister-President of Flanders, in an interview with VRT’s De zevende dag, referred to the curfew as “a serious infringement of our liberty” and his N-VA party has now become the first to file a bill to end the curfew measure. “I hope the federal government will give us some freedom in that regard,” Jambon added. “The day there is talk of abolishing it, I am on that side.” The discussion has created fault lines in Belgian politics.
