But here we are with the return of the Intelligentsia Cup, and a caravan of competitive bike-riders from around the world are in West Dundee to compete in Friday s opening race of the 10-day event spread throughout the suburbs and in Chicago. Highlighted by the daunting hill known as The Legbreaker, the West Dundee River Challenge presented by Amita St. Alexius Medical Center is a welcome sight for the riders who had to endure last year s cancellation.

Bartlett police: Alcohol, speed not factors in fatal pedestrian crash Friday

Updated 6/29/2021 3:48 PM Though their investigation is ongoing, Bartlett police say neither alcohol, drugs nor vehicle speed appear to have been factors in a crash Friday night that killed a Hanover Park man. According to police, 25-year-old Gustavo Ruiz-Aguilar was walking north across Lake Street at the intersection of Oak Avenue against a red light when he was hit at about 9:20 p.m. by a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by a 19-year-old woman.   Ruiz-Aguilar was taken to Amita St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where he died as a result of injuries from the collision. As the investigation continues, anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call the Bartlett Police Department at (630) 837-0846.

Bartlett man accused of striking officer in hit-and-run

Updated 6/28/2021 5:43 PM A Bartlett man was arrested Sunday after he hit a police officer and left the scene while driving under the influence, according to a Bartlett police news release. Just after 10 p.m. Sunday, two Bartlett police officers on motor-assisted bicycles were doing neighborhood patrols on South Bartlett Road when a pickup truck struck one of the officers.   The female officer who was hit suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. She taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates and later released. The truck and its owner 48-year-old Bartlett resident Jason A. Deckard were later located on Morning Glory Lane near Struckman Boulevard, police said. Deckard has been charged with a felony for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and two misdemeanors for driving under the influence and failure to give aid in an accident involving personal injury, the news release said.

Paul Valade | Staff Photographer   Updated 6/28/2021 7:03 PM Readily apparent deterioration is considered the cause of a balcony collapse in Schaumburg that sent a group of teens tumbling about 12 feet to the ground as they posed for a birthday party photo early Sunday evening. Only one person out of about 10 involved required immediate transport to a hospital after the collapse of the second-story deck at a townhouse on the 1000 block of Colony Lake Drive, but others sought treatment later for minor injuries.
