Credit Karen DeWitt / WXXI News The New York State Capitol is bracing for potential violence and armed protesters in the coming days, after FBI warnings about significant threats in online chatter from white supremacy and other far right groups. New York State Police say there are no specific credible threats against the building in downtown Albany, but are nevertheless stepping up patrols and taking precautions to harden security.
At a Friday afternoon briefing at State Police Troop G headquarters, Troop commander, Major Christopher West says steps have been taken to increase security at the Capitol, including closing one of two main entrances on State Street, and setting up concrete barriers to divert traffic away from the building.

The Albany Policing Reform and Reinvention Collaborative will begin working on its draft report after its public comment period ended Monday night.
The last of seven public input meetings to consider the future of policing in the city of Albany was Monday. The collaborative s goal: eliminating structural racism and bias in city policing, via public input. With state funding at risk, Governor Andrew Cuomo directed localities to finish their reform plans by April.

Albany Police Dig Out Residents After Snowmageddon
Shoutout to the Albany Police Department once again going above and beyond the call of duty during the massive snowstorm that dumped two feet of snow on the Capital Region. In a series of tweets by Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins, 6 or 7 officers were seen digging, throwing, burrowing, and plowing their way through heaping mounds of the white stuff as local residents greatly appreciated the effort.

Who could forget just over one year ago when the Albany Police digged out a distressed 99-year-old woman barricaded inside her house by over over a foot of snow in Albany. The pictures ultimately went viral after it was shared on the Albany police Facebook page and then picked up by People Magazine. That storm, was just a little guy in comparison to the avalanche we got Wednesday night well into Thursday afternoon.
Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins was out Thursday morning helping people dig out their cars.
Many officers were armed with shovels.
Hawkins sent a reminder to everyone drive safely and remember to take care of one another.
