National engineering firm BlueHalo will invest $60 million in a 200,000-square-foot innovation and manufacturing center for space technology and “directed energy” systems at Kirtland Air Force Base, the company announced Tuesday.
The new facility, expected to open in fall 2022, will be the first industrial tenant to set up shop at a planned 70-acre mixed-use site known as MaxQ, which is currently under development on Kirtland property along the south side of Gibson between Carlisle and Truman.

BlueHalo will relocate most of its 260 existing Albuquerque employees from other sites to the new location, while also hiring an additional 64 people to work there, the company said.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. A large truck stop corporation at the heart of an economic development debate is getting support from Bernalillo County after all.
Some county commissioners had previously questioned why the government should subsidize the travel center/McDonald’s planned for the Interstate 25 and Broadway interchange, both because it would feature mostly minimum-wage jobs and because Pilot Travel Centers LLC is a multi-billion-dollar corporation. (“Forbes” has ranked Pilot Flying J as the country’s 10th-largest private company, according to county documents.)
In May, the commission rejected Pilot’s request to waive about $58,000 in project impact fees. But last week, the same panel approved a $700,651 gross receipts tax reimbursement to cover the roadway improvements Pilot will have to make around the gas station. The company had initially requested $1.46 million but the deal wa
