Traffic Shift Set To Begin On U.S. 20 In Waterloo Get our free mobile app A construction project on U.S. Highway 20 in Waterloo will impact the flow of traffic for the next seven months. Work to rebuild a portion of the eastbound lanes is scheduled to begin Thursday, weather permitting. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT), crews will be removing and replacing pavement along a three-mile stretch of the highway s eastbound lanes between U.S. Highway 63 (Sergeant Road) and Iowa Highway 21 (Hawkeye Road). IDOT officials said the project will result in head-to-head traffic on U.S. 20, using the westbound lanes. Three ramps for eastbound U.S. 20 traffic will be closed during the project:
