Non-resident Indians, including the Bengali diaspora, have staged protests in more than 30 American cities, condemning the post-poll result violence in Bengal.
Several incidents of violence were reported in West Bengal after the announcement of assembly poll results on May 2. The BJP has alleged that its several workers were killed and many were injured by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the aftermath of the elections.
TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led the party to a massive victory in the state assembly polls last week.
Protestors carried placards reading Hindu Lives Matter , Protest Against Hindu Genocide to draw attention to the killings that followed soon after the poll results.

Chief Minister-designate M.K. Stalin has changed the names of various departments to reflect the dynamic changes that have taken place globally and to shape the vision and future of Tamil Nadu, according to officials.
He appointed a separate Minister for Water Resources, delinking it from Public Works, to address the water requirements of the State. “The Department will ensure continous supply of water to farmers and improve the water table. It will also desilt waterbodies, remove encroachments and coordinate with other departments for the purpose,” an official release said.
The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has been set up not only to improve agricultural production but also to protect the welfare of farmers.

No entry for travellers from India working in seven emirates
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) decision to indefinitely extend its ban on the entry for travellers from India has come as a bolt from the blue for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)working in the seven emirates.
The ban, in the wake of the surge in COVID-19 cases, is for passengers on all flights on national and foreign carriers, as well as for transit passengers coming from India. The decision came when the earlier ban was to end on May 14.

4,814 persons contract virus through local transmission
Amidst the heightened vigil, the Health Department on Thursday confirmed 4,990 more COVID-19 cases in Kozhikode district. Of the newly reported cases, 4,814 persons contracted the virus through local transmission. Four Non-Resident Indians, and 11 persons who recently came to the district from other States were also among the infected.
Health Department officials said they were clueless about the source of infection in 161 persons. As many as 2,577 persons recovered from the disease.
