The new organization will be the fourth-largest Blue Cross-Blue Shield plan in the United States, Highmark said. The New York-based entities will be renamed Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York and Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York. Highmark had announced the planned affiliation a year ago, saying it had to obtain government approval.

A total of more than 6,000 patients who fall in the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Phase 1A have already been pre-registered to receive the vaccine at these two clinics. The clinics are open only to those who have already been scheduled to receive the vaccine. No walk-ins will be accepted.
