An additional case of COVID-19 will not close Osborne Elementary

OSBORNE Osborne Elementary School, part of the Quaker Valley School District, will not close despite confirming another positive case of COVID-19 in the building.  The district was notified of a second positive case at the school on Thursday, bringing the number of cases in the elementary school s rolling 14-day average to two. Though the Pennsylvania Department of Education recommends small schools like Osborne alter their instruction models when the 14-day average falls between two and four, after district leaders consulted with the Allegheny County Health Department, they made the decision to keep the building open and continue the blended learning model.

A day after a data dump by a lab in Allegheny County led to more than 1,300 additional covid cases being reported, the county saw 403 cases on Thursday. The abnormally high number of cases Wednesday was attributed to GS Lab’s delayed return of data to the state and county. The 403 cases are more in line with daily reports since the beginning of the year. The seven-day average before the data dump was in the 400s. With Wednesday’s inclusion of the data, the seven-day average jumps to 548 for Thursday.

Lab s 3-month data delay leads to abnormally high daily covid total in Allegheny County

Nate Smallwood | Tribune-Review   TribLIVE s Daily and Weekly email newsletters deliver the news you want and information you need, right to your inbox. On paper, Allegheny County on Wednesday recorded its second-highest total of newly reported coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, according to state Department of Health data. In reality, the county’s daily new case total was largely in line with what it has reported since the region emerged from the winter surge in January, the county health department said. A Western Pennsylvania lab reported three months’ worth of covid test results in one day, accounting for the large discrepancy in the health departments’ daily case totals, Allegheny County said.
