Bernie Frazier asked about the outside world one sunny, Tuesday afternoon from a chair in his Plum house.
His question, directed at Plum’s EMS director, came after being homebound for more than a year.
“Have you had a lot of fires to respond to this year?” Frazier asked.
Brian Maloney, the EMS director, told him yes, there have been fires – but nothing unusual.

The state’s covid case total since the pandemic began is now 1,082,062.
Allegheny County had the fourth most reported cases of Pennsylvania counties Tuesday. The county reported 430 cases, of which 254 were confirmed and 176 probable, according to the Allegheny County Health Department. New cases range in age from 6 months to 95, with a median age of 33. Total cases are now 91,064 in the county.
Westmoreland County reported 171 cases (70 confirmed and 101 probable) on Tuesday, bringing its total cases to 30,837.
Hospitalizations
The state had 2,541 covid-19 patients hospitalized as of Tuesday, according to the Department of Health. To this point in April, there has been an increase in covid hospitalizations in 12 of the 13 days so far this month. Hospitalizations throughout the state are up about 22% since the beginning of month. The state’s current level of hospitalizations rivals mid-February levels, when hospitalizations were in the 2,500-range.
Pennsylvania on Saturday reported 4,882 additional cases of covid-19.
That makes for a seven day average of 4,318. The state’s seven-day case average has now been above 4,000 for 12 consecutive days.
Prior to that, the average remained below 4,000 since Feb. 4, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The state reported 40 new covid-related deaths. Of those deaths, 33 are from April, three are from March, one is from February, one is from January and two are from December.
Pennsylvania has a total 25,402 deaths related to the coronavirus.
There are currently 2,441 people hospitalized in the state for covid-19. The 14-day average for hospitalizations is 2,207, which is the highest it has been since the end of February.

Birmingham: The city on Tuesday extended a mandate requiring face masks in public to slow the spread of COVID-19, even as the statewide mandate expires. The City Council voted to extend the mask requirement through May 24. The decision came the same day the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Alabama will receive $44 million to expand vaccination efforts. Alabama ranks last in the country for the percentage of people who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, according to CDC data. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said the mask ordinance is needed because COVID-19 continues to be a health threat, and most people in the city and the state have not been fully vaccinated. Woodfin said many local businesses also urged the city to keep the mask ordinance in place. “We will continue to make decisions that we be
