This week has marked the return of students to in-person classroom learning four days a week in the Allegheny Valley School District. Superintendent Patrick Graczyk was made aware of something he hadn’t heard about in a while.

Alle-Kiski Valley school employees began receiving Johnson & Johnson vaccinations for covid-19 Thursday along with school workers across the region and state.
Gov. Tom Wolf announced last week that school workers would receive priority for the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine in an effort to get children back in schools full time by the end of the month.
Wolf estimated there were about 200,000 eligible educators and school staffers across the state. That number did not account for those who already are vaccinated or anyone who doesn’t want it.

Online resume and interview workshops scheduled
Pennsylvania CareerLink Alle-Kiski will offer workshops on Zoom.us for those needing help with resumes and interviewing.
A workshop about resumes will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and an interviewing workshop will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., both March 17. Sue Diehl will be the instructor.

Allegheny Valley School District students will be able to return to in-person learning four days a week beginning Monday, March 8.
The school board voted 7-1 in favor of bringing students in kindergarten through 12th grade back to school four days a week after impassioned arguments supporting the move from both parents and board members.
The board voted unanimously last month to return to a hybrid instructional model in which students are divided into two groups, with one attending in-person classes on Mondays and Thursdays and the other doing so on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Riverview Community Action Corp food bank accepting donations
The food bank at Riverview Community Action Corp in Oakmont serves people in need who live in Oakmont and Verona.
Donations of jelly, kid-friendly cereal, pasta sauce, noodles, rice, tuna and $10 Giant Eagle gift cards can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays at the center, 501 Second St. Residents in need should call 412-828-1062.
