Police said the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Van Buren Street.
A source said a 12-year-old girl was killed and an eight-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to his arm. That could not be confirmed late Thursday night.
City Police are investigating along with the State Police, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Ulster Police and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.

TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. â Two Kingston residents are facing charges after they were found with approximately 200 bags of heroin and fentanyl during a traffic stop, the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team (URGENT) said.
Jason T. Pease, 29, and Jennifer Krom, 39, were both arrested during a traffic stop on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in the Town of Ulster after an investigation into alleged sales and trafficking of heroin and fentanyl in northern Ulster County, authorities said. The approximately 200 bags of drugs were found on them both and hidden in the vehicle, they added.
Pease and Krom were charged with the felonies of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to an URGENT press release.
