The Beaufort County Board of County Commissioners, by a vote of seven to zero at the January 4
th 2021 meeting, set up a study committee of three commissioners to evaluate changing the enforcing of criminal laws from the sheriff to a county wide police force. Municipal police departments would not be affected. The three commissioners are: Stan Deatherage, Randy Walker and Hood Richardson.
This article is written with the goal of sticking to the facts. We have plenty of opinions about the “politics of law enforcement” in Beaufort County. We will bring them out later in opinion articles as the Beaufort County Police Committee completes its work and the full Board of Commissioners begins to consider the Committee’s final report.
My sense is that today we have a large segment of our population that has given up on government. They are disgusted, and most of them voted for Donald Trump only to see the election stolen by corruption of the election system in key states. They now assume that there is nothing they can do to fix government. But the truth of the matter is that they can do something and it will cost no money and actually very little time. That thing is: Attend the party’s precinct meetings.
Some of this may sound like old guff. However, nothing is more important to our political future than Democrats and Republicans attending their respective precinct meetings. This is how we push out the socialists and communists before we become their slaves.

Beaufort County schools to borrow up to $100M after tax delays
Bluffton Today
The Beaufort County Board of Education approved a plan this month to borrow up to $100 million to cover unpaid expenses caused by delayed county tax bills.
In a related motion, the board also voted to pursue legal action with the county to recoup the estimated $300,000-$350,000 in interest the school district will need to pay from the loan.
The county’s 2020 real property tax bills had been delayed for months. In a typical year, county residents receive tax bills by mid-to-late November, with a due date of Jan. 15. The county began issuing 2020 tax bills earlier this month, with a March 31 due date.
