Beaufort County School District sets outdoor graduations The Beaufort County School District says its 2021 graduation ceremonies will be held outdoors in June. The ceremony at May River High School is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 15 with a rain makeup day planned for 7 p.m. June 22. Bluffton High School s graduation is at 10 a.m. June 18 with the makeup day scheduled for 10 a.m. June 19. Graduations will be held in each school s football stadium, district spokesperson Candace Bruder said Thursday. The district will submit safety plans for the graduation ceremonies to the South Carolina Department of Commerce and Department of Health and Environmental Control for approval, a news release said.

Three May River High School students have been charged with spray-painting racial slurs and swastikas at a Hardeeville hotel, police said this week. Three juveniles were charged with burglary second degree and malicious injury to property on Feb. 9, Hardeeville Police Chief Sam Woodward said. The juveniles did a lot of spray-painting and used racial slurs. We do not know why they chose this location. The hotel was under construction when this happened and there was about $4,000 in damages done to the property.
