Call Me By Your Name are just three of the blockbuster films that would ve been impossible to make even less than a century ago.
From 1934 to 1968, the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America implemented the Motion Picture Production Code, a.k.a. the Hays Code, which regulated what was considered morally appropriate to show moviegoers. This impacted whether women could be topless, the use of vulgar language and even the depiction of men and women sleeping in the same bed.
But the most harmful policy was the outright refusal to depict same-sex relationships. So, until the early 70s, the LGBTQ+ community was largely unrepresented in films across America.

The crowd roared loudly in approval with audience members jumping out of their seats in praise, but not everyone was receptive of Lil Nas X s public display of affection. Some users on Twitter argued it was inappropriate.

The evening included some BET Awards firsts, including Tyler s first-ever performance and SZA s first win.
It feels great to see award shows with crowds again things really are getting back to normal.
It was a really solid show they kept things moving throughout and the host s jokes were actually funny.
Hot Girl Meg picked up a trio of trophies for Video of the Year, Best Female Artist and Viewer s Choice.
Taraji P. Henson hosted the evening s festivities, letting viewers know the show was designed to celebrate the year of the woman. She even handed out literal flowers to ladies in the front row, including Issa Rae, Zendaya and Maxine Waters.

NEW YORK (AP) â Cardi B’s “WAP” had new meaning at the BET Awards: winning and pregnant.
The Grammy-winning star debuted her baby bump during a live performance Sunday alongside husband Offset as well as Quavo and Takeoff of Migos. She also won video of the year for her Megan Thee Stallion-assisted No. 1 hit “WAP.”
