St. Vincent – The first members of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) s emergency response team arrived today (23/04) in St. Vincent to support displacement tracking activities and the delivery of essential shelter and emergency items to thousands of people who were forcibly displaced by the eruption of La Soufriere volcano.
The team will also provide technical guidance at shelters where more than 6,000 Vincentians now live. A shipment of approximately 1,200 hygiene kits and cleaning equipment will arrive from Trinidad and Tobago in the following hours. The situation in St. Vincent is still uncertain. As the eruption can go on for months, this is a crisis that will require a humanitarian response but also a response in terms of rehabilitation, said Jan-Willem Wegdam, IOM´s Emergency Response Coordinator for La Soufriere Eruption.

Saturday s torrential rains did not stop people from coming out to the COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic in Macomb.
Ben Thompson, Emergency Response Coordinator for the McDonough and Schuyler County Health Departments, said they inoculated more than 400 people.
“Today (Saturday) has gone really smooth. Other than the rain, which I think has deterred some people, it’s been going great,” Thompson said.
The clinic was open to people who live and/or work in McDonough and Schuyler counties.
They received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Thompson said they had enough vaccines for up to 500 people. He said the leftovers will be stored in a refrigerator and used either during regular vaccination clinics at McDonough District Hospital’s Health Services Building 1 or during another mass clinic.

As the McDonough County Health Department prepares to hold a mass vaccination clinic on Saturday, the agency is urging people to remain vigilant about following the protocols designed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“Our test positivity for a seven-day rolling average for McDonough County is currently at 4.2%. That was at 1% several weeks ago. So we are seeing a spike in cases,” said Ben Thompson, Emergency Response Coordinator for the McDonough and Schuyler County Health Departments.
“We would like to remind people that testing is still available. If you have symptoms of it, please get tested, please consult your primary care physician because COVID is still here.”
