Dr. Ian Norton says vaccination is a privilege and urges people to counter misinformation about vaccines, particularly on social media

A medical emergency expert has warned that the race is on between the vaccines and the variants of the coronavirus and said its vital the most vulnerable people in society are vaccinated as quickly as possible before these variants begin to circle around.
Dr Ian Norton, a former head of the WHO’s Emergency Medical Team Initiative in Geneva, who’s from Cork, described vaccination as a privilege and urged people to get vaccinated.

It may be unpalatable and not what people want to hear but the reality is we have never seen a pandemic of this scale end in less than two to three years. In fact it’s quite likely that some sections of the world’s population will not be vaccinated for another four years.
Given that extended timeline the importance of keeping transmission levels as low as possible and ensuring people can get on with their everyday lives becomes clear.
