As tens of thousands of Laredoans entered day three without electricity, and tens of thousands more with no water, it was not made clear when either of these essential services would be restored.
Tony Arce, manager of community affairs for American Electric Power, noted that on Wednesday morning, about 33,000 accounts across Laredo, Encinal, Zapata, Rio Bravo and El Cenizo were without power. By noon, around 2,000 of those accounts had been restored, and several thousand more a few hours later, Arce said. They hope to make more progress as more energy capacity comes online.
COPPERAS COVE â There was a steady flow of cars going through Copperas Cove High Schoolâs parking lot near the cafeteria Saturday as more than 500 area residents received their first dose of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine.
Copperas Cove Deputy Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator, Gary Young, said the city received a total of 564 registrants in the vaccine event.
Of those who received the vaccine Saturday was 55-year-old Copperas Cove ISD employee Barb Bednar.
âI checked my email 10 minutes before appointments opened up,â Bednar said. In her email she saw the notice about the drive-thru vaccination clinic.
Appointment registration opened on Tuesday, and all slots had been filled within an hour.

Montclair is about to take the next step in its long-conflicted relationship with leaf blowers. Montclair’s Town Council voted 5-2 to approve the first reading of an ordinance that would put greater restrictions on leaf blower usage. The next step is a public hearing and a final vote on the ordinance at the next council meeting on Tuesday, February 16. During the discussion at Tuesday’s council meeting, concerns were raised about the ordinance.
Montclair has had a leaf blower ordinance on the books for years, as Councilor at Large Bob Russo pointed out, but this new version would restrict gas leaf blower usage to two months in the spring and two months in the fall, and also limit hours of use.
