The Duke s son, Prince Charles, is one of many to begin posting out beautifully crafted cards to loyal fans who have offered their condolences over the loss.
And, it s safe to say, Charles choice in card has feeling emotional all over again.
The Prince shared a retro black and white photo of himself as a child, approximately nine or 10-years-old with his father, Philip, boating during a visit to the Isle of Wight in 1958.
‘A century ago, the Government of Ireland Act came into effect, and today marks a significant centenary for both the United Kingdom and Ireland,’ the Queen wrote in a message posted to the royal family’s website. ‘This anniversary reminds us of our complex history, and provides an opportunity to reflect on our togetherness and our diversity.’
She later continued: ‘It is clear that reconciliation, equality and mutual understanding cannot be taken for granted, and will require sustained fortitude and commitment. During my many visits to Northern Ireland, I have seen these qualities in abundance, and look forward to seeing them again on future occasions.
