Rangers pay tribute to Prince Philip as Duke of Edinburgh passes away aged 99
Rangers have paid tribute to Prince Philip after Buckingham Palace confirmed today that the Duke of Edinburgh has passed away at the age of 99. The club wrote on Twitter: Everyone at Rangers Football Club is saddened by the passing of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Our deepest sympathies go to Her Majesty and the rest of the Royal Family. Prince Philip was the longest-serving consort in British history. The duke and the Queen were married for more than 70 years and Philip dedicated decades of his life to royal duty, serving the nation at the monarch’s side.
But despite advancing years and a health scare the prince is said to have kept up with youngsters from Laburnum Boat Club and Hackney Quest as a patron of London Youth charity.

The prince had been hospitalised with heart problems the previous Christmas and watched young people narrow boating, rock climbing, and pancake making at Laburnum Boat Club along the Regents Canal in Haggerston, even getting involved himself.
“The prince was very good considering his age and his recent ill health,” said director Jim Armstrong at the time.
His long life spanned an era of exponential change, which he embraced with great energy and foresight. His Royal Highness was tireless in his work to protect and enhance the reputation of both the Crown and the Royal Family throughout the world and for this, as a Crown Dependency, we are particularly indebted to him. There is an immense sense of loss at his passing.”

ITV has confirmed major changes to its schedule for this evening (April 9) in light of the death of Prince Philip.
Buckingham Palace confirmed today (April 9) that the Duke of Edinburgh had passed away at the age of 99.
A statement from the Palace read: It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
Philip’s relationship with Diana became complicated as her separation from Charles and their eventual divorce played out in a series of public battles that damaged the monarchy’s standing.
It was widely assumed that he was critical of Diana’s use of broadcast interviews, including one in which she accused Charles of infidelity. But letters between Philip and Diana released after her death showed that the older man was at times supportive of his daughter-in-law.
After Diana’s death in a car crash in Paris in 1997, Philip had to endure allegations by former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed that he had plotted the princess’s death. Al Fayed’s son, Dodi, also died in the crash.
