Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has died, aged 99

Philip, 99, was the longest-serving consort in British history. The duke and the Queen were married for more than 70 years and Philip dedicated decades of his life to royal duty, serving the nation at the monarch s side. He officially retired from public engagements in the summer of 2017. The Palace said in a statement: It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. TWO Test Valley leaders have paid tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh after it was confirmed by Buckingham Palace he passed away. The news of his death was announced in a statement on Twitter by The Royal Family on behalf of the Queen. It said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. “His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.” He was aged 99. After marrying the then Princess Elizabeth at Westminster Abbey on November 20 1947, the couple spent part of their honeymoon at Broadlands - the former home of The Earl Mountbatten of Burma.
